Why I Love Readwise
How Readwise transformed my reading workflow and helped me actually retain what I read.
I used to highlight books and articles religiously, then never look at them again. Sound familiar? Readwise fixed that problem for me, and it’s become an essential part of my knowledge management system.
What Readwise Does
Readwise collects your highlights from Kindle, web articles (via Reader), PDFs, podcasts, and more — then resurfaces them to you through daily review emails and spaced repetition. It’s like Anki for your reading highlights.
My Workflow
- Read and highlight — Whether it’s a cybersecurity textbook on Kindle or a blog post in Readwise Reader, I highlight anything worth remembering
- Auto-sync — Highlights flow into Readwise automatically
- Daily review — Every morning, Readwise shows me 5-10 highlights from across my library. It takes 3 minutes and keeps knowledge fresh
- Export to Obsidian — Readwise syncs all highlights to my Obsidian vault, where they become part of my linked knowledge base
Why It Matters
The value of reading compounds only if you retain what you read. I’ve rediscovered insights months later that were directly applicable to a project or problem I was working on. Without Readwise, those highlights would have been buried in a Kindle account I never revisit.
If you’re serious about learning and building knowledge over time, Readwise is one of the best investments you can make. It turns passive reading into active knowledge building.
